Are you ready for your first ride?
Let's get you ready; here's what you can expect
A fitness experience like no other! The Powerhouse is an inviting and friendly place for people of all abilities. Our classes range from low intensity introductory classes, to intense and purposeful capacity building for those looking to really push their heart rates and test their limits.
THE FIRST RIDE
WE DON'T JUDGE OR COMPARE OURSELVES TO OTHERS. We believe the comparison is the thief of joy! Come to compete against yourself, to become stronger and to improve your own performance and increase your confidence. We are here to help you reach your fitness goals, and have fun while doing it!
Our 45-minute workouts are not a typical spin class. It is a unique cycling experience synced to great music with instructors who are supportive and inspiring
Getting started is easy. Arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can set you up safely and properly on your bike.
You will want to bring:
- water bottle
- comfortable athletic clothes
Cycling shoes provide a better cycling experience. They are not required, but the stiff soles allow for more power to be generated during each pedal stroke, as well as supports the joints in the foot. Should you have cycling shoes, or want to purchase them, our bike pedas are "SPD" compatible (SPD is a specific design of pedal clip most commonly used on mountain bikes). Road cycling shoes with LOOK or other road cleats will not work.
We ask that you don't put your cleated cycling shoes on until you are ready to mount your bike. They may damage the wood floor.
DRESS FOR SWEAT
Avoid long, loose pants. They can get caught while cycling. We recommend shorts or leggings.
Regular physical activity reduces the risk of coronary disease, stroke, colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure. It helps control weight, contributes to healthy bones, muscles and joints, and reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression. Cycling is “low-impact” meaning that it is easier on your joints, as opposed to the stress from ground-pounding sports and activities. It is soft on your knees, hips, back, and other joints.
That depends on you and how hard you work. Advanced cyclists can burn up to 1000 calories in a 50 to 60 minute workout. When you start out you might burn half as many calories, but you are still making tremendous improvements to your overall health.
Yes, that is totally cool, as long as you cancel 8 hours in advance of the ride. That allows us enough time to open your seat up to another person-classes will fill up and the seat reservation system is the best way for us to service busy people, like yourself. Other places do "first-come, first-served" but the problem with that is that many people don't have an extra 20 - 30 minutes to arrive at a class early with the hopes of getting a seat. We value and respect your time. That is why we created The Powerhouse app.
If you don't cancel your ride and "no-show" you will be charged for that seat. You can easily cancel your seat directly from The Powerhouse app. If you have an emergency and can't make it at the last minute, let the studio know directly by emailing us at email@example.com
Almost anytime, and it's easy. Our ride schedule always offers a 14 day look ahead. To reserve a ride, just log into The Powerhouse app or log in on the website. In order to reserve your spot, you must purchase rides or have a monthly membership. From there, just click on the time you want. If a class is full, put yourself on the waitlist. If a bike opens up in that class, you'll be placed into the class and notified via email or phone. All new riders must arrive 15 minutes early for bike fitting and to let the instructor know that this is your first ride.
As soon as a bike has opened up, and you are on the waitlist, we will notify you by phone or email. Remember, when you put yourself on a waitlist, our system uses one of your credits to hold your place. If you do not plan to attend class, please remove yourself from the waitlist to avoid penalty. You may remove yourself under My Account on our website.
Sorry, but our doors close 1 minute before start time. This is both a safety AND courtesy issue for our riders. The room is dark and the bikes are close to each other so we need everyone to arrive on time.
No we do not.
What to wear?
Wear comfortable exercise clothing that YOU feel comfortable in. Avoid loose and/or baggy clothing that could interfere with the bikes. If you have cycling shoes, wear them. If not, regular tennis shoes are a okay!
What to bring?
Be sure to bring your shoes (if you have them), a water bottle, a sweat towel, and a POSITIVE attitude!
How do I use the bike?
Our trained instructors will assist any new cyclist in setting up their bike and ensuring comfort and safety for the ride! To make sure you get the best assistance we can offer, show up early for your ride!
